Objective:
Design a simple black and white graphic rendition of a chosen animal using only shapes, lines, and points to showcase the animal's tangible and intangible characteristics.
Research:
Researched images to identify important traits of the ring-tailed lemur. The main attributes that stood out were the striped long tail and dark fur around the eyes. Additionally, the playful, mischievous demeanor of the lemur was taken into consideration when choosing the pose.

Tangible Attributes
Long striped tail
Dark fur around
big round eyes
Dark snout
Grasping hands and feet
long limbs
Intangible Attributes
Playful
Mischievous
silly
Amusing
Attentive
Sketching:
Sketches were done to explore potential directions and poses. Starting with more realistic depictions and simplifying the shapes to start the digital iterations.
Digital Iterations:
The established sketch was chosen and then translated and refined into a digital version using Illustrator.

Final Mark:
Soft, varying line weights were used to show the lemur's playfulness and softness. In addition, the pose of the lemur looking directly at the viewer highlights its mischievousness.

Creature phrase:
The mark was integrated into a larger composition. The phrase, "scurrying across the forest floor, the lemur's large eyes gleam, ready for the scheme," was placed, drawing your eye from the background to the foreground. The word "scurrying" was later placed sporadically through the background to convey the feeling of scurrying. Color was also added that wasn't present before.
